Q1: WHAT ARE THE CHANGES TO THE WASTE MANAGEMENT COLLECTION SERVICE?

From 30/6/2014, Wingecarribee Shire is introducing a three bin system with a more flexible range of options.

As part of the upgraded service, every household with an existing domestic waste service will receive new garbage and recycling bins as well as a garden organics bin.

Your new garden organics bin (green lid) will be emptied on the alternate fortnight to your recycling bin (yellow lid).

Q3: WILL MY COLLECTION DAYS CHANGE?

Your collection days will not change, however the collection calendar will look different.

If you know you are currently in the Week B collection zone for your recycling bin, follow the Orange Zone Collection Calendar. This calendar shows which week is your recycling week (week highlighted yellow) or garden organics week (week highlighted green).

Q4: WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO MY OLD BINS?

Your old bins will be collected and recycled. Simply place your old bins upside down (with the lid open) on your kerbside on June 30th and they will be collected by the contractor.

  • Lawn/grass clippings
  • Prunnings and branches
  • Leaves and weeds

Q8: CAN I SWAP MY GARDEN ORGANICS BIN FOR AN ADDITIONAL WASTE OR RECYCLING SERVICE?

No. The annual domestic waste charge is levied based on the three bin service (waste, recycling and garden organics). These services cannot be swapped as they are charged at different rates by the contractor. In addition these range of services are provided to assist in reducing the amount of waste going to landfill.

Q9: I have a multi-waste service with two purple-lidded bin. Why am I only getting one bin to replace them?

The standard capacity for garbage bins in Wingecarribee Shire is 80L. If a resident had higher waste disposal needs, until now the only option has been to provide two bins.

With the new contract, the alternative was made available to use another standard bin size, 140L. Although slightly lower in capacity, there are cost-savings relating to the cost of the bin, as well as the weekly cost of the bins being collected ‘per bin’ and other on-costs.

If the rate payer would prefer two garbage bins, it can be provided that way, however there is a cost difference. In 2014-15 a weekly waste service with:

  • 1 x 140L bin is $489 pa
  • 2 x 80L bin is $399 plus $200 = $599 pa (ie a standard weekly service plus an additional 80L bin)

Q10: My bin has been stolen, what should I do?

If one or all of your bins are stolen you will need to contact the Customer Service Hotline on 1300 133 969, and we will be able to assist you. Alternatively, you can notify us online. ( http://waste.wsc.nsw.gov.au/contact-us)
